blue october

Now Blue October

Now blue October, smoky in the sun,
must end the long sweet summer of the heart.
The last brief visit of the birds is done;
they sing the autumn songs before they part.
Listen, how lovely — there’s the thrush we heard
when June was small with roses, and the bending
blossom of the branches covered nest and bird,
singing the summer in, summer unending –
give me your hand once more before the night;
see how the meadows darken with the frost,
how fades the green that was the summer’s light.
Beauty is only altered, never lost,
and love, before the cold November rain,
will make its summer in the heart again.

This poem was shared by my yoga teacher and I found it to be quite beautiful and timely.

continued birthday magic.

Birthday celebrations continued all weekend - and kept getting better and better.
After breakfast in bed on Saturday- Lacadia invited us over for some midday hot totties, then we did a bit of thrifting. Later we had dinner at Magpie, followed by a birthday party for myself and fellow libra friend Siobhan hosted by Olivia and Rafter.  It was such a fun night.

Check out this rad cake - totally suitable for cakewrecks.

And I got some pretty amazing goodies...
like this hand drawn radness from trisha

And a bottle of Pimm's (which is perfect because the Pimm's Cup has been my current cocktail obsession)
And those beautiful flowers delivered on the morning of my birthday from my sweet friend Maya!

2 tickets to the B Street Theatre !

Nothing makes me happier than handwriting -

this book from Olivia - sexy babes smoking cigarettes

super.awesome mix cd from corine, richard, and orson

and...

this hand drawn number from eli depicting his gift to me - tickets to NYC !

Then dinner with my folks on Sunday, and dinner with Eli's folks last night.
Feeling like the luckiest girl in the world with the most amazing friends, family and boyfriend.

h o m e

Let me set the scene for you... today is the first day of my last year in my twenties.  It is 845 am and I am writing this from bed.  You see, I have been given strict instructions not to leave the bed just yet.  So far Eli has delivered to my bedside a delicious cup of coffee and a strong and spicy bloody mary.  And I can hear him right now bustling around in the kitchen, I suspect there is more on the way.  Damn I am a lucky girl with a major babe life partner.  It feels so good to be HOME.

After eight days spent with friends and family, I am home.  The trip was amazing.  The Bear to Make a Difference event in Denver was a lovely evening where some 500 people gathered to support, donate, and be part of making this world a better place.  Celebrity teddy bears were auctioned off as part of a the silent auction, as well as many other goods and services. In case you are not familiar with this cause, this story, this foundation, please check it out here.  Every time I leave one of these events I feel inspired to DO MORE.  It's not enough to just talk about how passionate I am about equality and LGBT rights, I need to get my hands in this cause, and I fully intend to.

Logan and his girlfriend Marlo Goff, who also happens to be an old dear childhood friend of mine!  How amazing, right!?!  Loved seeing her, catching up, and being back in touch...

I remember attending one of Judy's speeches years ago where she said that her main goal, overall mission, was to not have this foundation anymore because it wasn't needed.  Because equality, tolerance, acceptance, and equal rights existed for all.  Sometimes I feel like we are really getting there, making serious progress, and then you hear about things like the recent bullying and individuals feeling like it's better to take their own lives then be who they are.  It's hard not to feel discouraged but we can't give up this fight.  It breaks my heart.  We need to do more.  I need to do more.

The Jane Lynch teddy bear was quite a hit...

Have I mentioned how happy I was that Eli was able to join?!! He looked like a major babe and was being checked out by hot gay men all night... !!

After Denver, I flew to Minneapolis for 5 days of hanging out with Lana, Scott, Omar and Jad.  It was a perfect week.  More pictures and details to come.

So, breakfast just arrived... hummus, pita, cucumbers, cheese, and a crunchie and flake bar! Woohoo.  Gotta get into this now... xo

smf > den > msp

tomorrow morning i will be en route to denver for the weekend.  we will be attending the bear to make a difference event which takes place on saturday.  i am incredibly excited that eli will be joining me.  this is something so near and dear to my heart, and it just feels incredible to share things like this with eli.  now that we really are taking that leap into life partnership - everything seems to have more sentiment behind it.  i like it.

here's a shot from the 2008 bear event:

on sunday, eli flies home, and i fly to minneapolis for a week!  i can't wait.  i'm completely unplugging from work, and the only role i will be focusing on is being an AUNT.

i imagine my week will consist of, but not limited to, the following:

reading children's books
coloring
playing hide and seek
art projects
naps
walks
hanging out at the park
taking tons of pictures
laughing, singing, dancing

here's a preview of half of the cuteness that awaits me:

dinner party dream

I came across this story about a couple who hosted a dreamy dinner party under the Golden Gate Bridge. What a great idea!  Don't you just want to be invited to something like this?  Or better yet, host it!

photos by Paul Ferney for Oh Happy Day

It appears so well executed, effortless, and magical.
They put together a little DIY guide on how to pull this off.
